Materials Handler Trainee 2 (Lathrop, CA)

**Summary**
The Material Handler Trainee observes and assists experienced
Material Handlers. This individual will begin training on the
packaging line, and then continue with other Material Handler
disciplines. A successful Material Handler Trainee will advance to
one of the Material Handler positions within the Materials
Management department; must pass written and operational tests.
**Key Responsibilities**
+ Progressively learns and interfaces with products, materials, and
equipment throughout the Materials Management department.
+ Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work environment;
shovels product spillage into appropriate bins and physically
stacks packages as needed.
+ Cleans out elevators, roofs, and wipes down packaging line;
sweeps floors and clears areas of any trip hazards.
+ Assists with lockout/tagout procedures, observes and participates
in troubleshooting, helps correct problems as needed.
+ Interfaces with touch-screen monitors to control packaging line
processes; learns appropriate staging practices for pallets, boxes,
bags, and other materials.
+ Changes film rolls on hooder machine, listens for alarms, resets
faults, and re-hoods pallets as needed.
+ Assists with weighing and inputting materials into hoppers
according to work orders; learns proper functioning of belts,
elevators, and screens. Cleans equipment after each product run to
prevent contamination.
+ Works closely with Bulk Material Handler to learn about the bulk
product shipping and receiving function; reviews paperwork and bill
of lading; completes all paperwork appropriately.
+ Performs preventative maintenance (PM) on forklift and front-end
loader to include, but not limited to visual checks, checking fluid
levels, and ensuring that all safety items (seat belt, horn,
lights) are working properly prior to use. Completes required
forklift and front end loader training.
+ Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with
all rules and regulations, and continuously practices safety while
performing duties.
+ Wears the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
including, but not limited to steel-toed boots, safety glasses,
hard hat, hearing protection, and gloves when entering specified
plant areas at all times. Additional PPE may be required based on
job duties.
**Typical Education**
High school diploma or GED; or an equivalent combination of
education, training and experience
**Relevant Experience**
+ Basic math skills; ability to take weights, measurements, and
calculate proportions.
+ Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, and ability to use a
computerized touch-screen scale.
+ Knowledge of tools and operating equipment used in the plant;
ability to operate various hand tools, power tools, etc.
+ Excellent verbal, written communication, time management skills
and attention to details.
+ Shows initiative, willingness to learn and grow with the
company.
+ Team player with strong work ethic; ability to arrive at
scheduled time and be prepared for work.
+ Ability to work under pressure, execute short deadlines and
interact with others.
+ Ability to operate fork lift, front-end loader, or other
motorized vehicles; valid Driver's License. Must pass certification
test on fork lift and front-end loader.
+ Required to maintain reliable, regular attendance.
**Other Information**
**Pay:** **$22.36/hr.**
**Physical Requirements:**
This job requires the ability to work rotating shifts in excess of
eight hours per day, off-duty hours, and weekends to reach
operational goals and compliance requirements. This individual must
have the ability to operate a front-end loader, forklift, and/or
other motorized equipment. Job duties may require the ability to
climb stairs, climb ladders, bend, stoop, reach, lift, grip, push,
pull, move and/or carry equipment which may be in excess of 50
pounds. In order to perform the duties of this job, finger
dexterity is required to operate a keyboard, touch screen, and
calculator.
Working in this plant operations environment requires the use of
safety equipment to include, but not limited to safety glasses,
hearing protection, steel-toed boots, hard hat, face shield, and
respiratory protective equipment. The incumbent will be required to
wear a uniform in specified plant processing areas. This individual
may be subject to variations in noise levels and temperature
changes due to weather conditions. While performing the duties of
this job, this individual is frequently exposed to moving
mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic
chemicals. Loose fitting clothing, open toe/heel shoes and the
wearing of contact lenses are not permitted.
