Job Description:

A full-service acute care facility serving the residents of Tracy for over 60 years, Sutter Tracy Community Hospital (STCH) has a total of 82 inpatient beds. STCH provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services including: a 24-hour emergency department, inpatient and ambulatory surgical services, endoscopy lab, intensive care, diagnostic imaging, laboratory and rehabilitation services including physical, speech and occupational therapy. STCH also has specialized care for Hemodialysis, Family Birthing Center, Continence Center and a Pain Management Center. STCH is a not-for-profit, community-based hospital, affiliated with Sutter Health since 1993. The Patient Care Shift Supervisor acts as the administrative representative to manage patient care issues for staff, physicians, patients, families and visitors. They function within the full scope of licensure and facilitate the nursing process by providing clinical support and direction to the nursing staff in coordination with all hospital services in the provision of care to the patients and their families. They act as the administrative representative in the absence of Administration, Nursing Administration and Department Managers after hours, weekends and holidays. They are responsible for allocation and utilization of resources to and for the nursing staff of all departments answering to Nursing Administration. They perform data entry to assist in the analysis of acuity levels and staffing needs for departments with computerized acuity systems. They coordinate and participate in the activities necessary to meet patient needs, including but not limited to basic patient care, administration of medications & proper documentation. They must meet the physical requirements of all departments under Nursing Administration and be capable to step in and cover patient care if needed. They assure provision of patient care through rounds, phone calls, etc and assign patient beds for Emergency Department & direct admit patients during the hours they are present. They manage the patient flow through system, direct/participate in hospital codes, assists for any in-house and/or external disasters. They must have knowledge of State and Federal regulations along with knowledge of where to access the necessary regulatory information. They provide a shift report for the incoming Supervisor, Manager, and Nursing Administration outlining but not limited to how issues were handled, follow up notification if needed, and staffing allocations. The Nursing Supervisor is accountable for insuring the patient satisfaction improvement activities and documentation is complete. They keep current on the leadership and management Conferences provided to meet this requirement. The Nursing Supervisor facilitates critical thinking and problem solving skill development among the nursing staff, and promotes a collaborative multidisciplinary approach to patient care. They will round periodically with hospital managers that have night staff. They will advise managers of personnel, supply or equipment issues that impact the delivery of patient care services either in person, by phone or by email. They participate in patient satisfaction improvement activities including rounding on patients, family, visitors, staff, managers, and physicians as well as completing supporting documentation. They contribute to the direction of clinical services by insuring policies, procedures, and practices are consistent with the mission and philosophy of Sutter Tracy Community Hospital and Sutter Health. They will support Sutter Tracy Community Hospital Pillar Goals and Standards of Excellence. The Nursing Supervisor keeps current on the leadership and management meetings and conferences given that provides the knowledge to educate staff of all departments about patient satisfaction improvement activities. They participate in process improvement planning and activities that contribute to the safety and satisfaction of our patients, family, visitors, staff managers, and physicians. Minimum Qualifications * Must initiate a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree within one (1) year and complete within five (5) years after accepting the position or a degree in Health Care Administration, or a related degree or equivalency may substitute. * Valid/Active CA Registered Nursing License * Basic Life Support Certification * Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) * Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) * Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) * Five (5) years of clinical nursing experience * Three (3) years in a critical care/acute care environment. * Demonstrated progressive supervisory or personnel management experience. * Documented professional accomplishments/references that demonstrate sustained performance in positions of increased responsibility. * Required to work frequent PM or weekend shifts Preferred Qualifications * Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree is preferred. A degree in a clinical field such as, Health Care Administration, or a related degree or equivalency may substitute. * Certification in a clinical concentration Skills & Knowledge * The supervision of a hospital requires knowledge of principles and practices of nursing for all inpatient settings, emergency departments, surgical services and ambulatory care settings. Other skills include but are not limited to: * Title 22 and other Local, State and Federal regulations * California Board of Registered Nursing Scope of RN Practice * Patient Safety * Environmental Safety * Infection Control Management Principles * Employee Health Practices and Regulations * Organizational policies and procedures * Fiscal Responsibility * Performance Improvement * Hourly Rounding for Patient Satisfaction * Five Principles of Patient Communication (AIDET) * Individualized Patient Care * Must possess excellent written communication skills ? computer literacy ? Microsoft Office, Excel and electronic patient documentation systems. * Leadership, managerial, analytical, organizational and prioritizing skills. * Be able to work independently with minimal direction and supervision. * Effective verbal communication and guest relation skills, as demonstrated by the ability to articulate well, consistently applying critical thinking skills, facilitating conflict resolution; adaptable and flexible to a variety of situations and able to perform psychomotor skills proficiently. * Demonstrated leadership ability to react quickly and calmly in crisis situations. * Extensive understanding of patient care equipment, i.e. infusion pumps, monitoring equipment and orthopedic equipment. * Ability to respond to emergency and unusual events * Ability to work in a highly demanding environment * Ability to assist with possibly combative, disoriented patients * Have IV skillsSDL2017
