Role

Tesla is looking for a highly motivated Controls Engineer. You will work with cross-functional teams responsible for designing and producing exciting new technologies for vehicle service. You will need to successfully collaborate closely with highly talented engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Work as PLC expert on a cross-functional team with a diverse skillset in SCADA, integration, and scripting
  • Support PLC equipment when bringing up new lines and continuously improving on existing lines
  • Support equipment from multiple production lines with high autonomy and willingness to learn
  • Become the go-to expert on the production lines and products you'll work closely with
  • Be motivated to learn about new products, learn new skills, ambitious to learn about the products and process, willing to step outside of the role to help the team
  • Be flexible and collaborative, willing to work in fast paced product and technology factory, and curious about technology
  • Work with engineering drawings by modifying and reading schematics
  • Highly organized and detail oriented for reporting process and experimental results and process/equipment characterization results.
  • Knowledgeable about quality practices (i.e. IQC, OQC, DOE, etc.)
  • Experience working with automotive manufacturing/service equipment preferred.
  • Work on multiple projects with tight deadlines.

Requirements

  • Education: B.S in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Engineering field or the equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability
  • Minimum 3-5 Years exp. in PLC programming (Allen Bradley preferred)
  • Strong understanding of ladder logic, structured text, communication protocols
  • Strong understanding of industrial robotics (Fanuc preferred)
  • Strong understanding of common PLC components such as various types of sensors, conveyors, network switches, power supplies, HV Parker panels, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot issues and conduct root cause analysis
  • Understanding of HMI development using (FactoryTalk View preferred, Ignition is a strong plus)
  • Python and SQL is a plus
  • Basic experience with creating schematics
  • Automotive, Aerospace, or heavy equipment industry experience preferred
  • Ability to work autonomously to manage projects and maintain communication with interested parties
  • Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills
  • Proven ability to research information, solve challenging problems, and coordinate projects under tight timing constraints
  • Demonstrated talent in setting up, running, and maintaining/troubleshooting high precision manufacturing equipment and process
  • Excellent fundamental engineering knowledge and have examples of applied engineering success through work, projects, or academic endeavors
